Discover the art and alchemy of natural fragrance creation in this hands-on, one-day workshop designed for curious beginners. Whether you're a scent lover, creative spirit, or simply looking for a unique Icelandic experience, this immersive class introduces you to the fundamentals of perfume-making through the lens of nature, locality, and modern botanical expression.
Led by perfumer and Ilmur & Sjór founder Nicholas Brittain, you’ll explore some of Iceland’s locally-made, native aromatic materials, and create your very own natural perfume using local, small-batch ingredients—including at least one tincture made by Nicholas from hand-picked local plants.
In this workshop, you will:
• Learn the basics of how perfumes are structured using top, middle, and base notes.
• Explore the main fragrance families (floral, woody, amber, and fresh).
• Smell and experiment with a curated palette of all-natural materials, including Icelandic essential oils and hand-crafted tinctures.
• Understand the differences between alcohol- and oil-based perfumes.
• Blend your own, all-natural fragrance using Icelandic materials to take home in a 10 mL bottle (written formula included).
This intimate and engaging session includes all materials and plenty of time for scent exploration and creativity. By the end, you'll walk away with a beautiful, bottled perfume, a deeper connection to Iceland’s aromatic landscape, and the knowledge to continue your fragrance journey.
All materials provided. No experience necessary.
